  1. 1 cup bajra (pearl millet) flour
  2. A pinch of salt
  3. Water as needed to form a firm dough
  4. 1 teaspoon oil or ghee (for cooking)

Method / Preparation

Follow step-by-step instructions
  1. In a bowl, combine bajra flour with a pinch of salt. Gradually add lukewarm water and knead to form a smooth, firm dough.
  2. Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a thick, round flatbread (rotla), using a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface or between plastic sheets.
  4. Heat a griddle over medium heat and cook each rotla with a little oil or ghee until both sides produce light brown spots and the rotla is cooked through.
  5. Serve warm with a dollop of ghee and your favorite fasting pickle or yogurt.
