  • 4 large potatoes, boiled, peeled, and mashed
  • 2 tablespoons arrowroot powder (or singhara atta/rajgira atta)
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanut powder
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (optional, as per fasting rules)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoons ghee or oil for shallow frying

Method / Preparation

Follow step-by-step instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, arrowroot powder, roasted peanut powder, chopped green chilies, grated ginger (if using), chopped coriander leaves, cumin powder, lemon juice, and rock salt.
  2. Mix all ingredients thoroughly with your hands until well combined and a dough-like consistency is formed.
  3. Divide the mixture into 10-12 equal portions and flatten them into round or oval patties of desired thickness.
  4. Heat the ghee or oil in a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat.
  5. Carefully place the patties on the hot pan, ensuring not to overcrowd it. Cook in batches if necessary.
  6. Cook for 3-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Once cooked, remove the Farali Aloo Tikki from the pan and place them on absorbent paper to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with green chutney or yogurt, suitable for fasting.
