  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
  • 4 oz (113g) unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (85g) chocolate chips or chunks

Method / Preparation

Follow step-by-step instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8x8 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler, melt the butter and chopped unsweetened chocolate together until smooth. Stir occasionally to ensure it melts evenly. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted chocolate mixture, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
  4. Gently fold in the all-purpose flour and salt until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs, not wet batter. Do not overbake for fudgier brownies.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares and serving.
